I have built screens for many years, inspired by Japanese shojis. The play of light through the screen materials is incomparible. The circular and the tree of life designs are limited production items, usually done as custom orders, but also available through galleries on occasion. Designs like the Avonite screens, shown here, are strictly one-of-a-kind items,which give me the opportunity to experiment with new materials and structural ideas.The rice paper-like material in the Japanese style screens is Synskin, a coated fiberglass which, although it looks like rice paper, does not fade or yellow with exposure to direct sunlight, and is flame- and moisture-resistant.
